Planned Geotechnical Investigations for Replacement of CBD
(Central Business District) Bridges on I-59/I-20 between the I-65 Route Interchange and the 31st Street Interchange, in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM – Weather permitting, beginning on Monday, March 18, at 8:30 a.m., the Alabama Department of Transportation will perform geotechnical investigations for replacement of the I-59/I-20 CBD (Central Business District) bridges in the Birmingham/Jefferson Civic Center area, as follows:
Details:
The work will consist of soil borings along various City of Birmingham streets for the proposed CBD (Central Business District) bridge replacement on I-59/I-20; including I-59/I-20 Interchange modifications at I-65 and at 31st Street North and along the 11th Avenue Corridor Reconstruction from I-65 to I-59/I-20, as follows:
• 24th Street; 31st Street; and 11th Avenue North between 31st Street and 14th Street
• This work will continue seven days per week from March 18 until March 29
• The work will resume on April 1 and will continue thru April 12
• This work may require intermittent lane closures on city streets to accomplish the work.
• All travel lanes will be reopened to traffic by 3:30 p.m. each day
